2 Popular Baby Foods… Pasta & Chickpeas

Hey Reader,

Have you served your baby pasta yet?

It’s one of those foods that parents actually tend to feel pretty confident about—especially if their baby’s already exploring lumpy textures and finger foods. Pasta’s soft, easy to cook, and when it’s chopped up and mixed into a sauce? Totally manageable. (At least, most of the time!)

But—surprise!—there’s a lot more to pasta than meets the eye.

Think:
🍝 So many types
🥄 Big variation in nutrition
✅ Specific cooking methods that are safest for babies

And chopping pasta into tiny bits and tossing it in sauce? That’s just one texture of many your baby needs to experience for long-term success with solids!

👉 On the blog this week, we’re covering everything you need to know about serving pasta safely and nutritiously to your baby—plus we’ve included a low-sodium, baby-friendly pesto recipe that makes a perfect meal for the whole fam.

Food of the Week

Chickpeas

As you may know, we've been working hard on developing a completely searchable video library for how to serve all foods safely to your baby - all according to our Texture Timeline™! Every month, we're adding new food videos (found inside our Baby Led Feeding program), with over 100 foods to make prepping any food so easy!

This week, we added Chickpeas!

Whole chickpeas are naturally round in shape, causing them to be a choking hazard if not offered to your baby appropriately. Chickpeas should be fully cooked until soft, then mashed or flattened before serving to minimize the risk of choking. Always make sure you’re offering baby-appropriate foods based on their skill level and ability to chew their food thoroughly.

The videos above show how to serve chickpeas according to different phases of our Texture Timeline™️. For those new, this is a tool we’ve created to help parents and babies move through easier —> more advanced textures (with purées or finger foods) in a timely manner. It’s perfect for those who want to ease into solids and textures and finger foods, and want to do so in a more step-by-step manner. Our team Speech Language Pathologist uses an exclusive rubric to analyze foods in different shapes, sizes, and cooking methods to determine the safety and difficulty level of consuming a food, so you can feel confident in this more gradual approach and build your confidence along the way!

If you’re wanting to move into more advanced textures and finger foods to prevent picky eating BUT you’re a little scared/worried/anxious - I’ve got you! I’ve got a FREE workshop called “Baby Led Weaning…but make it purées! How to transition from purées to finger foods without the fear”.

You’ll get my step-by-step method for how to confidently make the switch, little by little, but still in a timely manner, as well as get over your fear of gagging/choking and learn how to safely serve food based on your baby’s progress! Spots are limited! ❤️
